When applying for an Iran visa, first you need to know which approach you’d like to take. Do you want to go for: Iran E-visa, Iran Visa On Arrival or Iran Visa for US, UK, and Canada. Please note that the country you are holding a passport from is the benchmark country, not the country you were born in or are currently living in.
Requirements for Iran Visa On Arrival (VOA):
Iran Visa On Arrival is an Iran visa, issued for more than 75 countries with the aim of expediting the issuance process.
In order to apply for an Iran Visa On Arrival, you can either go through the whole process online or at an Iran International Airport.
Apply for Iran VOA at airports:
In this case, you go straight to Iran airports and ask for an Iran visa. You must have the following documents with you.
- Passport with at least six months validity
- Two photos to be attached to the visa form
- A confirmed return ticket.
- Visa fee in euro
Note: Credit Cards, due to sanctions, do not work in Iran, so make sure to bring enough cash. - A PRINTED travel insurance

- There might be an interview (your purpose of visiting, cities to visit, the length of staying)
Online applying for Iran VOA:
When applying online, you beforehand fill in the forms and upload the documents. Then, you will be given the Grant Notice; a piece of paper with which you will go to the airport, the officer will stamp it, and it will become your visa. Here are the documents you need to have:
- A hardcopy of the Grant Notice
- Passport with at least six months validity
- A confirmed return ticket.
- Visa fee in euro

Requirements for Iran E-Visa
Iran E-visa is the common type of visa, eligible for almost every tourist, except for the USA, UK and Canadian citizens. It is also the choice for those who are not eligible for Iran Visa On Arrival.
The same as Iran VOA, you can apply for E-visa online or at an Iran embassy. Learn more about Iran E-visa.
Apply for E-visa at Iran embassies:
This is the traditional way of applying for a visa. In this case, you go to an Iran embassy in your country and hand in the documents in person. Here are what you need to carry.
- Passport with at least six months validity
- Two photos to be attached to the visa form
- A confirmed return ticket.
- Visa fee
- A PRINTED travel insurance

Applying online for E-Visa:
Like Iran VOA, you should fill in the online form and upload your documents, then, you will be given the Grant Notice. After that, to carry on, you can either mail the documents to the Iran embassy in your country or hand them in person.
